The interest rate on student loans is ridiculous, especially when average interest rates are lower. I don't have a problem lobbying for better rates.

Still...

It's hard to be empathetic about a large debt that, assuming you can make it through med school, will enable you to pay for becoming a doctor. I have a substantial amount of student loan debt that I took on so that I could become a minister. I did it knowingly, understanding full well the amount of money I would have to pay back. It's been a drag on our finances, for sure. But it's also enabled me to meet and work with some great people (present company included!), live in different places, play music for a living, etc. So, for me, what I've paid (and will continue to pay) for all of that is worth it.

I forgot to mention the difference in price between Western supermarkets and local markets too... A whole fridge of veggies could cost the same as a jar of peanut butter!

Thanks,
Forest.

I just moved to Cairo as my partner is studying here... The groceries are pretty cheap for me but I have heard they are going up steadily in price so it may be worth me doing some tracking.

Thanks,
Forest.
